Clinical counseling is provided by licensed clinicians, and by associates and trainees working under the supervision of a licensed clinician. Each works within their scope of practice and the applicable standard of care.
You will know which kind of care you are receiving, in writing, before you begin.
What it is
Professional mental-health counseling from clinicians who share your convictions. You will not have to explain why your faith matters, translate it into other language, or brace for the moment it gets treated as part of the problem.
That changes the work more than people expect. Prayer can be in the room. Scripture can be on the table. Your spiritual life is treated as real, and so is your depression.
Clinical science, held in its lane, is a gift. Every clinician here is subject to the board that governs their license and carries the obligations that come with it. The work is Christian and it is licensed. Neither cancels the other.
How it differs from pastoral counseling
Both pillars sit with the same troubles. Anxiety, grief, a marriage under strain, a hard season that will not lift. The difference is not the list of problems. It is perspective, scope, and method.
Perspective
A clinician reads your life through clinical assessment: history, patterns, symptoms, and what the research says moves them. Held, here, inside a Christian understanding of the person rather than against it.
Scope
Clinical counseling can assess, diagnose, and treat mental-health conditions, and can work with trauma at a depth that needs training to hold safely. Where the question is spiritual rather than clinical, that is pastoral work.
Method
Structured, evidence-based approaches with a treatment plan and goals you can measure. Prayer and Scripture are welcome in the room when you want them, and never a substitute for the clinical work.

Your church, not instead of it
Clinical work and congregational life are not competitors. Where you have a church, your clinician will ask about it and treat it as part of your support rather than something to work around. Where you want your pastor involved, we can coordinate with your written permission.
